Africaine, a reçu, samedi 1er mai 2009, au siège de
l’Union Africaine à Addis Abéba, Ethiopie, une
délégation des Emirats Arabes Unies conduite par le
ministre des affaires étrangère, Son Altesse Sheikh
Abdellah Ben Zaid Al Nyan, venu solliciter le soutien des Etats
membres de l’Union Africaine pour la candidature de son pays à
abriter le siège de l’Agence Internationale pour
l’Energie Renouvelable (IRENA)

Mr. Jean Ping, Chairperson of the African Union Commission on
Saturday 1st May 2009, received in audience a delegation of the
United Arab Emirates, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His
Royal Highness, Sheikh Abdellah Ben Zaid Al Nyan, who came to seek
the support of the African Union Member States with respect to the
candidature of his country to host the Seat of the International
Agency for Renewable Energy (IARE)

Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Mr. Jean
Ping, continues to follow closely the developments in Madagascar in
the light of the position of the AU as expressed by the Peace and
Security Council (PSC) at its 181st meeting, held in Addis Ababa on
20 March 2009.

COMMISSION CALLS ON AU MEMBER STATES TO BE ALERT TO POSSIBLE SWINE
INFLUENZA EMERGENCY IN AFRICA

-
Recent incidences of the Swine influenza have caused alarm throughout
the world. As of 29th April, the Director General of the World Health
Organisation (WHO) issued a statement that Swine Influenza
constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. In
this regard, WHO has raised the alert from phase 4 to phase 5which
means that the disease can no longer be contained and concerns have
been expressed that it can become a global pandemic. Apart from
Mexico where it originated from, cases of the swine influenza have
been detected in Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Spain,
Switzerland and Israel

Abéba, le 29 avril 2009 - Une importante délégation
allemande composée d’ambassadeurs accrédités
dans différentes régions d’Afrique et conduite
par M. Peter Ammon, Secrétaire d’Etat en charge des
affaires étrangères, a procédé hier, au
siège de l’Union africaine à Addis Abéba,
Ethiopie, à la présentation de la maquette du bâtiment
que la coopération germanique (GTZ) offre au Département
de paix et de sécurité de l’Union africaine.

BUILDING PEACE AND SECURITY
The German
government has agreed to finance the construction of the new building
for the Peace and Security Department of the African Union (AU)
estimated to cost about 20 Million Euro. The new building will be
centrally located on the grounds of the AU in Addis Ababa, adjacent
to the AU’s new Conference Center.

FOR JOURNALISTS

The
African Union (AU) and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany
invite journalists to attend the opening of the exhibition of
architectural designs for the new building for the Peace and Security
Department of the African Union. The German government has agreed to
cover the costs of about 20 Million Euro for the construction of the
new building.

Experts of Integration Meet in Yaoundé to Discuss Regional and
Continental Integration.

Yaoundé
4 May2009 –
African
Experts in the domain of integration, started brainstorming on Monday
4 May 2009, at the Yaoundé Conference Center, Cameroon, ahead
of the 4th Session of the African Union Conference of Ministers in
charge of Integration (COMAI IV), under the theme: “Partnership
on Integration in Africa”. Participants at the Experts
preparatory meeting include: Representatives of the Economic
Commission for Africa (ECA), African Development Bank (AfDB),
European Union (EU) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The Experts are drawn from AU Member States.
